Introducing Coaching
The products on this page are what we recommend for introducing coaching to a leader or group that is unfamiliar with it. The task here is not to teach people how to coach, but to present the basic concept, let them experience what coaching looks like, and to get them interested in learning more. Here’s a comparison of what we think are some of the best options:
- Christ-Centered Coaching: Seven Benefits for Ministry Leaders. As the title says, this book focuses on what coaching can do for you. This is the best book for giving to a pastor or leader you are trying to introduce to the world of coaching.
- A Crash Course in Christian Coaching. An inexpensive DVD of a well-known coach doing a presentation on the basic principles and values of coaching. A good choice if you want to introduce coaching through a group. I’d recommend following it with an actual coaching demo, though.
- Peer Coaching DVD Set. While this 2-disc set is more expensive than the other choices, it offers many short coaching demos and teaching snippets that would fit well into a short presentation to a group or leadership team. For people to ‘get’ coach, they generally have to see someone coach instead of just hearing you talk about coaching.
